Visitor Center at Allatoona Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Allatoona Lake offers a small interpretive visitor center at the Operations Project Management Office. Among the many educational displays are subjects covering Native American history, the local mining industry, wildlife, recreation, hydropower, the Battle of Allatoona Pass and much more. A ten minute video depicting the history of Allatoona Lake and the surrounding area is also shown in the visitor center auditorium. Lake information is available at the office front desk, as well as, numerous brochures on the lake and  local area.

Outside, take a walk up to the overlook and vista for a bird's eye view of Allatoona Dam. Visitors also have an excellent view of Cooper's Furnace, the only surviving structure of the Historic Etowah Iron and Manufacturing Company. Before you leave, make sure you visit the two educational hiking trails that are available to the public. Cooper's Furnace Trail and the interpretive Laurel Ridge Trail, both have trailheads located near the office (hiking trails). Also located nearby, are the Cooper Branch Day Use Areas where families can picnic, rent a shelter (reservations), or even launch a boat at the boat ramp (boating).

NEW!!! Recently, an interactive computer was added where visitors can find information on recreation, shoreline management, and water safety (water safety). Before you leave, make sure the kids watch the video with "Bobber the Water Safety Dog"!

The Operations Project Management Office is open 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday, except on holidays. The office is also open 8am-6pm on weekends and holidays during the summer months, March through Labor Day Weekend.
