   SEC Staff To Conduct Briefing on Efforts To Address
                       Microcap Fraud

     Washington, D.C., February 6, 1998 -- Securities and
Exchange Commission staff members will give a briefing
regarding the Commission's comprehensive and coordinated
approach to addressing microcap fraud on February 9, 1998 at
4:00 PM in room 1C50.  The information from the briefing
will be embargoed until after the Commission votes on
Tuesday, February 10, 1998.

     Expected speakers include, Brian Lane, Division of
Corporation Finance, Richard Lindsey, Division of Market
Regulation, Bill McLucas, Division of Enforcement, Lori
Richards, Office of Compliance, Inspections and Examinations
and Nancy Smith, Office of Investor Education and
Assistance.  They will give presentations outlining their
activities and progress combating microcap fraud.

     This will be an on background, "pen and paper",
briefing.
