Mark Schwartz, Chief Information Officer, Office of Information Technology, Management Directorate

Background Experience/Significant Achievements:

Mark Schwartz entered on duty as the USCIS Chief Information Officer (CIO) on June 14, 2010. Prior to this position, Mr. Schwartz was the CIO of Intrax Cultural Exchange, a leading sponsor of  J-1 cultural exchange programs, where he led business reengineering efforts that replaced paper-based processes in the field and overseas with end-to-end electronic processes, resulting in vastly improved customer service, scalability, and compliance.

His innovative Family Room application for the AuPairCare business unit redefined how families are matched with au pairs and drove dramatic market share, revenue, and profit growth over the following years. This accomplishment was recognized by CIO Magazine with a CIO 100 award in 2006. In 2010 Mr. Schwartz was named one of the Premier 100 IT Leaders by Computerworld Magazine.

Prior to Intrax, Mr. Schwartz was CEO of Auctiva Corporation, a company that provides software and online services to large buyers and sellers on online marketplaces such as eBay. There he oversaw the substantial growth of Auctiva’s market share through the launch of a number of innovative, market-defining products. In addition to extensive IT leadership experience, he has also served as a management consultant, improving clients’ procurement processes, incubating and developing startup ventures, and helping companies fine-tune their product roadmaps.

Education:

Mr. Schwartz holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Yale University, an M.A. degree in Philosophy from Yale, and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business.
