Charter

The Institute for Research on Wireless Networks (IRWiN) is an educational collaboration between LANL and Ohio State University (OSU).

IRWiN assists LANL in recruiting new employees in the Information Science area. The institute also provide retention and revitilization activities for existing LANL staff including promoting joint LANL/OSU collaborations. The institute concentrates on joint collaboration that will lead to external joint funding opportunities.

Specifically IRWiN facilitates educational and research collaborations between LANL and the OSU in the general area of wireless networks and Wireless Ad-hoc/Sensor Networks (WANETs). The research program will focus initially on development and testing of new algorithms for enhanced functionality, reliability, and security in wireless networks, in particular in WANETs with low-power, resource-limited devices. This partnership enables exploring methodologies developed via experimentation and testing on the OSU's wireless-network testbeds, e.g., the Kansei testbed, through support of Collaborative Research Projects and building of similar testbed capability at LANL.
