Check the Status of your Non-Immigrant Visa Now

Most visa applications in Kabul require an average of 60 to 90 days after the interview for required administrative processing.  You should check the status of your visa periodically utilizing the case number shown on the letter the Consular Officer gave you on the date of your interview.  Check the Status of your Non-Immigrant Visa Now (PDF 266 KB). The following chart is a guide which tells you the next step to take depending on the status shown:

Status Action You Should Take
Pending No action at this time
Need More Information Contact the Embassy by email:  KabulNIV@state.gov
Schedule Visa Pick-up Send an email to KabulNIV@state.gov to request an appointment to come to the Embassy. Email subject line must read: Visa Collection

Your case will show a Pending status until your visa is ready. Once your visa is ready, the status will change to Schedule Visa Pick-Up and, at that time, you must send us an email to KabulNIV@state.gov. Please make sure the subject line on the email reads: Visa Collection. We will reply with up to three appointment times for you to choose. Although we will try to accommodate your first choice it may not always be possible. That is why we will advise you via email of the proper date and time for collection of your visa.  If we require additional information, and we have not been able to reach you or you have not responded, the case will show Need More Information status. Please contact us at KabulNIV@state.gov to inquire and then submit the information in order to complete your case.

Important Notes: To avoid delays when you come to pick up your visa, check the validity of your passport, I-20 and / or DS-2019 as applicable. Once your visa is scheduled for pick-up you have 30 days to respond. After that time period your case will be administratively closed and you will have to apply again, including scheduling a new interview appointment, completing a new application form, paying a new fee  if you still desire to travel.

Please check the status of your case periodically. Do not contact the Embassy while your application is under administrative processing as we will NOT be able to provide you with any further information until the administrative processing is complete.

Please note that the Embassy is closed on all U.S. and Afghan holidays as listed here: http://kabul.usembassy.gov/faq.html.
