We recognize that true emergencies sometimes mean it's not possible to apply early for a visa. Still, never make final plans or pay for any travel arrangements before you find out if a visa can be issued. Visa issuance is based on an interview and then, in most cases, administrative processing. We urge all applicants NOT to make final travel arrangements or buy tickets before receiving a visa in their passports. All applicants must be qualified by law before a visa can be issued. The consular section accepts no responsibility for missed travel dates.
If you have a medical emergency, urgent business travel, or school starting soon, please visit http://kabul.usembassy.gov/non-immigrantvisas.html and complete your application, then schedule an appointment. If the soonest appointment date available in the system is AFTER your business meeting or school or exchange program start date, or you have a serious medical emergency and intend to seek treatment in the U.S., please email us at KabulNIV@state.gov with your scheduled appointment date, name and passport number. Include documentation to support your request for an urgent appointment. Documentation would include evidence of your planned business meeting, your I-20 or DS-2019 form showing a student or exchange program with a start date, or up-to-date confirmation from a U.S. physician about the medical emergency, depending on your circumstances. Requests for urgent appointments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Important: we can only accommodate requests for emergency appointments from applicants who live in Afghanistan.
