Senator Boxer Visits Fort Ord

Monday, August 20, 2012

Dear Friend:

I recently had the pleasure of joining Congressman Sam Farr and a group of veterans, environmental leaders, and local officials for a tour of the new Fort Ord National Monument.  To view photos, please click here.

On April 20, 2012, President Obama designated nearly 15,000 acres at the former Fort Ord military base north of Monterey as a National Monument.  I had written to the President in February in support of the designation to preserve the area as β€œan important historic site for veterans, Californians and the nation.”  To read more, please click here and here.

Fort Ord stands as a tribute to the men and women who served our military and trained on those grounds.  Designating the Fort Ord Public Lands as a National Monument ensures that veterans and other visitors can enjoy the rich history and natural beauty of these lands for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer, US Senator, California
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
