WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $9,269,426 to Memphis International Airport for overall upgrades and snow removal and de-icing equipment.

“As the economic engine of the Mid-South, it is crucial that Memphis International continue to make upgrades to maintain its position as the largest cargo airport in the world,” said Congressman Cohen.  “These new federal funds will give the airport the snow removal and de-icing equipment it needs for the upcoming winter and will help make upgrades throughout the facility.”

The federal funds will be used to acquire snow removal equipment that includes a de-ice truck, four de-ice spreaders and a snow broom.  Other improvements include taxiway widening, the installation of new perimeter fencing, terminal rehabilitation, and runway, tower and security enhancements.
