August 30, 2010 - Owner/operator and employee of Miami-based school sentenced for immigration-related fraud

Lydia Menocal of Miami was sentenced to 15 months in prison for her role in student visa fraud at a language school she owned. Menocal was also ordered to serve two years of supervised release after she completes her sentence, pay a $5,000 fine and forfeit around $600,000 in money and property to the United States. It was ICE's largest-ever student visa fraud investigation, netting 116 administrative arrests of student visa violators. Full Story

August 31, 2010 - ICE dismantles Long Island drug trafficking organization

ICE agents in New York arrested 17 individuals for their role in a narcotics trafficking ring operating in Long Island. In a coordinated operation, more than 300 federal, state and local law enforcement officers arrested 16 defendants in the Bronx, Long Island and Queens. An additional defendant was already in custody on state charges. Full Story

September 2, 2010 - ICE joins INTERPOL Washington in effort to locate criminals in the United States

INTERPOL Washington is partnering with ICE in Operation FAR AWAY, an intelligence-driven operation designed to target, locate and arrest criminal aliens in the United States and in other Western Hemisphere countries. Operation FAR AWAY, which runs throughout September 2010, includes more than a dozen participating INTERPOL member countries. Full Story

September 2, 2010 - Federal investigation of illegal honey imports from China results in guilty plea, indictments

Two long-term ICE investigations into the illegal importation of honey from China resulted this week in a guilty plea by a Seattle-area businessman and a 44-count indictment charging 11 individuals and six corporations in Chicago. Full Story

September 2, 2010 - Retired U.S. Army veteran at ICE helps recuperating veterans transition to work; ICE leads DHS in bringing veterans on board through Operation Warfighter

A U.S. Army veteran, Wayne "Mike" Nelson was, not too long ago, paralyzed from the waist down. He courageously climbed out of immobility, and now he's helping other veterans through the Operation Warfighter (OWF) program. Under Nelson's leadership as the ICE veterans employment program manager and coordinator for OWF, ICE is leading the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the program. Full Story
