ICE seizes 1,400 pounds of marijuana in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested five suspected drug smugglers and seized more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana Friday in Tucson.

While conducting surveillance of a suspected member of a drug smuggling organization in Nogales, Ariz., agents witnessed the pickup truck of the suspected smuggler escort a tractor trailer from a Tucson-area truck stop to a residence in South Tucson.

On Friday, ICE agents followed the pickup truck and tractor-trailer to a house in South Tucson, where it was joined by three other vehicles. The vehicles were all stopped by ICE and the Arizona Department of Public Safety after they left the house. Two of the vehicles were found to contain more than 1,432 pounds of marijuana. As a result of the investigation and seizure, ICE agents arrested Jesus Alberto Escoboza, 36, Jesus Gabriel Solis 37, Angela Guadalupe Vasquez, 25, David Galvan Haro, 39, and Benjamin Rene Aguirre, 35, on charges related to the possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

All five suspects, who are U. S. citizens, had their initial appearance at the federal court in Tucson yesterday.
