ICE detainee passes away at Federal Correctional Institute

BUTNER, N.C. - On May 7, 2010, Julian Elias Cogle-Del Pino, a 72-year-old citizen of Cuba, being held at a Bureau of Prison's facility on immigration charges, passed away at the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) in Butner. Cogle-Del Pino suffered from stage four lung cancer but the preliminary cause of death is still being determined.

ICE officials have notified the Cuban Interest Section of his passing. In addition, consistent with ICE protocol, the appropriate state health and local law enforcement agencies have been notified.

Cogle-Del Pino is the sixth detainee to pass away in ICE custody in fiscal year 2010.
