FRAUD, WASTE, AND ABUSE (FWA) FAQ'S

Q: What is the FWA Awareness Program? 
A: The FWA awareness program is set up to detect and eliminate improprieties such as theft or misuse of government resources or conflicts of interest.

Q: What is Fraud? 
A: Fraud is willfully taking or attempting to take unfair advantage of the government. Offering payment for favors, accepting gratuities for services, false statements, false claims, and kickbacks are a few examples of fraud. Fraud may be perpetrated on computers as well.

Q: What are waste and abuse? 
A: Waste and abuse includes extravagant, careless, or needless spending of government funds. Waste and abuse also includes misuse or consumption of government property or violations of orders and directives.

Q: What do I do if I suspect FWA? 
A: When FWA is suspected, inform the chain of command with any pertinent information. The MCB FWA Hotline (645-3267) and the MCB CG's Hotline (645-9188) may be used to reports suspected cases. Provide as much information as possible. Or, the Base Inspector's office may be contacted directly at 645-3788.

Q: Do I have to give my name when making a report? 
A: Anyone who chooses to use one of the hotlines may do so and remain anonymous.
