AEDC employees collect gifts for Angel Tree

Pam King, of the Air Force Civil Engineer Branch, and Mitch Kendrick, an Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA) power switchboard operator in Electrical Operation, drop off gifts for the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Angel Tree as Janet Feller, coordinator of the program, and volunteer Lora Arnold assist. Feller, an information technologist, and Arnold, an engineering technician, are both members of the ATA Employee and Community Activity Committee (E&CAC), which is sponsoring the Angel Tree. ATA makes donations to area charities

The Employee and Community Activities Committee (E&CAC), the charitable arm of Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA), recently made donations to a number of local organizations. One of the cash awards was to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at East Coffee Elementary School in Manchester. Pictured are Kelvin Shores, principal; Lisa Lorance, teacher and Math Academic Excellence chair and Becky Combs, civic chairman of the E&CAC. The donation was used to purchase take-home kits and other supplies for Family Math Nights at the school. Other donations were recently made to the following organizations: Warren County American Association of University Women (AAUW), Warren County Kiwanis, Coffee County Humane Society, Coffee County Family Resource Center, Coffee County Central High School, Arrowhead Ranch and the North Lake Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. ATA presented with Operation Never Forget plaque in gratitude for support

Caption for 111511-F-KE225-214: On Wednesday, Dave Uselton, ATA’s material control manager for logistics, and a Marine Corps veteran, presented ATA General Manager Steve Pearson with a plaque from Operation Never Forget's (ONF) national program manager, thanking ATA for financial contributions to the non-profit organization. Their mission is to build memorial bronze busts of every service member who has been killed in theater in Iraq or Afghanistan since 9/11. Uselton, a cofounder of Operation Never Forget, is the ONF Southeast Regional Program Manager and advisory board member. The most recent contribution from ATA to Operation Never Forget has gone toward assisting with building the bust of Army Sgt. David Alexander Stephens. AEDC participates in Let Freedom Ring Event

AEDC Commander Col. Michael Brewer and Tennessee Army National Guard Lt. Col. Warner Holt, the Regimental Fire support coordinator for the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment headquartered in Winchester and safety manager for ATA, were among the speakers Oct. 15 at the second annual Let Freedom Ring Military Community Appreciation Day at the Monterey Station in Cowan. The AEDC Honor Guard also presented the colors and performed the prisoner of war/missing in action (POW/MIA) table ceremony. Pictured are the Rev. Robert Beal, Master of Ceremonies Dr. Jerry Anderson, Colonel Holt, Colonel Brewer and retired Army Col. L.Z. Johnson. The Let Freedom Ring event is meant to recognize and show appreciation to the entire military community, including active duty personnel as well as National Guard, Reserve forces, retired military and their families. Café 100 grand opening

A grand opening was held Oct. 31 for Café 100, located in the former cafeteria in the A&E Building. Café 100, operated by the Arnold Lakeside Center (ALC), serves a variety of Starbucks beverages plus juice, vitamin water, iced tea and sodas. Food items include pig in a blanket, bagels, coffee cake, croissants, muffins and fruit. Café 100 is open from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pictured at the ribbon cutting are AEDC Commander Col. CFC Charity Fair Photo

Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Executive Director Britt Covington talks with a representative from one of the 25 local charities in attendance at the Combined Federal Campaign’s (CFC) Charity Fair, Oct. 20, in the lobby of AEDC’s Administration and Engineering (A&E) Building. The CFC is the annual fundraising drive conducted by federal employees in their workplaces each fall. With a goal of $50,000, this year’s CFC runs through Nov. 16. For more information, call CFC Chair Tony Echols at 454-4291 or Deputy Chair Donna Paredez at 454-6279. Although CFC is for Department of Defense (DOD) civilians and military, Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA) employees have a separate charity campaign via payroll deduction, which runs through the calendar year. 2011marks the 50th anniversary of the CFC program. AEDC firefighters attend Nashville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Nine Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) firefighters were among hundreds from nine states to participate in the second annual Nashville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Sept. 11 at the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower. The firefighters, wearing personal protection equipment (PPE) with air packs totaling about 60 pounds, climbed the building’s 28 stories enough times to represent the 110 floors of the World Trade Center to honor the firefighters who lost their lives in the tragedy 10 years ago. Each carried a name and a photograph of a firefighter who died Sept. 11, 2001. AEDC firefighters participating included Charles Armstrong, George DeShields, Dennis Eggert, Gary George, Mark Gribble, Ken Locker, Anthony Jimcoily, Sam Teat and John Templeton. Firefighters from Tullahoma, Manchester, Shelbyville, McMinnville and other area departments also participated in the stair climb. (Photo provided)
