Course Scope:

     Soldiers will prepare and initialize FA Survey and Meteorological (MET) equipment for operation. Specific equipment and training includes:

  • Nikon NE-102 Theodolite
  • Improved Position and Azimuth Determining System (IPADS)
  • Global Positioning Systems
  • Meteorological Measuring Set-Profiler AN/TMQ-52A/B
  • AN/TMQ-55 Surface Sensor (TACMET)

  • Principles of Survey

  • Map Reading
  • Field Notes
  • Operate Nikon NE-102 Theodolite
  • Astronic Observations
  • Forward Operating System (FOS)
  • IPADS Operation

  • Principles of Meteorology

  • Ballistic Meteorology
  • Record MET Messages, Obtain Surface Observations and produce Extrapolated MET Messages
  • Introduction and Emplacement of Profiler System
  • Initialization of Profiler System
  • Conduct Soundings
  • Process Messages and Troubleshoot Profiler System

     Warrior tasks will be reinforced during an all inclusive Field Training Exercise (FTX) where the soldier will be required to apply the trained skills and knowledges in a challenging realistic environment.

  • Occasionally lifts 275 pounds 30 inches and carries up to 30 meters as part of a 2 Soldier team (prorated 137.5 pounds per Soldier). Must lift 100 pounds for 300 meters
  • Occasionally pull up to 83 pounds 36 inches. Frequently lifts 50 pounds and carries 10 meters
  • Must possess finger dexterity in both hands
  • Frequently reads complex schematic diagrams
  • Must be able to hear a wide range of human voice tones

Special Information

     Upon completion of this course 13S and 13W Soldiers will be awarded ASI 5Y. Beginning in 2011 Soldiers completing this course will be awarded MOS 13T.
