These community guidelines, developed with input from members,
are designed to help guide you in participating in
ExchangesConnect and interacting with others.
- Be yourself – Tell us what your interests are,
post pictures and videos (only your own, please!), and personalize
your page. Read more on “Getting Started."
- Protect your personal information – Keep your
contact information secret (email addresses, phone numbers, instant
messenger screen names, and more). Be careful about arranging any
in-person meetings with people you may meet on this site. Read more
on “Personal
Safety on Social Networks.”
- Do not advertise – ExchangesConnect is a
community for people to learn from others about cultures and
international exchange, not to advertise an
unrelated/commerical business, service, website, or job
opening. That said, passing along a link to a relevant website or
blog consistent with ExchangesConnect's mission is perfectly
appropriate. If you encounter solicitation or inappropriate
behavior on ExchangesConnect, report it.
- Be positive and polite – We are here to learn
and to exchange ideas, not to insult or judge each other. Remember
that there is a person on the other end of the technology.
- Be respectful – Be respectful of others’
privacy and do not request personal information or make others feel
uncomfortable. ExchangesConnect is not a website to look for dating
or romance. Remember to keep conversations appropriate, since we
have both adult and youth members.
- Be curious – If you have a question, ask and
learn from others! There are many people who can help answer
questions.
- Be helpful – If someone has a question that
you can answer about your culture, country, or a program you are
familiar with, respond!
- Stay on-topic – Keep the conversation relevant
to international exchange and cultures in our groups and discussion
forum.
- Be supportive – Many people here are learning
about new cultures and lifestyles for the first time. Help teach
them!
