Global Nuclear Security Technology Division

About Us

Our mission is to perform research, development, and deployment of science and technology for nuclear nonproliferation, safeguards, threat reduction, transportation security, and related areas. The division supports missions of the United States Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration, other government agencies, institutions, consortiums, and U.S. industry.

Brief History of Our Division

The Global Nuclear Security Technology Division (GNSTD), directed by Alan S. Icenhour, was formed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory on July 1, 2008.  GNSTD and its predecessor organizations have a rich history of scientific and engineering research, development, and technical support that cuts across many research divisions at ORNL and addresses many science and engineering efforts of importance to the nation.
