In Kenya, 1 in every 29 women die in childbirth and 1 in every 19 babies die before their first birthday. The Global Health Initiative is strengthening services to provide quality antenatal, prenatal, delivery, and child healthcare.

Results

1,180,384,300 liters of water disinfected with point-of-use treatment products
Disinfecting and properly storing drinking water at its source is strongly associated with a reduction in diarrheal disease among young children.
652,344 children under the age of one received the third dose of the Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus vaccine

Immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases is a proven and cost-effective intervention that improves child health. Coverage for the third dose of the Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus vaccine is an internationally accepted health indicator, as well as a good indication of a working health system and utilization of services.

510,364 cases of diarrhea treated in children
Diarrheal illness is a major cause of preventable death among infants and young children.
388,000 deliveries attended by a skilled birth attendant

A skilled birth attendant is an accredited health professional, such as a doctor, midwife or nurse. Births attended by skilled birth attendants are significantly associated with better outcomes, including reduced maternal deaths.

1,880 people trained in maternal or newborn healthcare services

Training health professionals, primary health care workers, community health workers, volunteers, and nonhealth personnel is a major component of maternal and child health programs to build in-country capacity.

95 percent of children under the age of 1 received the third dose of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine
The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) protects against pneumonia − the leading cause of preventable death among infants and young children.
90 percent children under 1 year old received a measles vaccine
Measles is a highly contagious disease, which mostly affects children. Serious complications can occur in malnourished children or children with reduced immunity.
