ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF COMMERCE Q. TODD DICKINSON GIVES MAJOR STATE OF THE PTO ADDRESS TO ABA INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY GROUP

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce and acting Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks, Q. Todd Dickinson, will deliver a major address outlining the current state of the PTO on Thursday, June 23rd in San Francisco. In a luncheon speech before over 400 members of the American Bar Association's Intellectual Property Law Section, Dickinson will track the evolution of the PTO from the dawn of the 20th century to the close of what many are calling the American century. Dickinson will describe how the 20th century opened for the PTO with one third of its patent applications dealing with bicycle technology. He will go on to relate that it will close with continuing explosive growth in communications and health-related technologies; particularly those involving the Internet, bio-informatics, combinatorial chemistry, and express sequence tags.
