NCPTT Conservator Jason Church looks at deposits of gypsum crusts on the Macomb monument.

NCPTT researchers, in partnership with masonry experts from NPS Historic Preservation Training Center, recently completed a study to develop treatments for use on marble monuments in Historic Congressional Cemetery.  The project included research comparing appropriate cleaning methods for application to fragile surfaces of the U.S. Arsenal and General Alexander Macomb monuments as well as training on cleaning techniques. A condition assessment report and treatment recommendation will follow.
