HAZMAT BASICS

How to Use the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), 49 CFR Parts 171-185 ¿ review how to locate specific information in the HMR using the Hazardous Materials Table and to identify: proper shipping name, hazard class/division number, identification number, packing group, packaging references, special provisions, and mode restrictions.

Hazmat Transportation Training and Security Requirements ¿ provides an overview of training requirements found in sections172.700 to 172.704 of the HMR. Get tips on how to maintain employee training records. Provides an understanding of security threats, an overview of the specific security requirements of and suggestions and guidance on how to comply with the security regulations.

Package Selection, Marking and Labeling Requirements ¿ learn how to select the proper package to transport a non-bulk hazardous material, properly mark the package, and label the package.

Shipping Papers and Emergency Response Information ¿ learn how to properly describe a hazardous material on a shipping paper including additional descriptions and emergency response information.

Placarding Requirements ¿ learn how to determine the required placarding when offering and/or transporting HM.

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Special Permits and Approvals ¿ learn the similarities and differences between special permits and approvals documents which authorize a person to perform a function that is not currently authorized under the authority of the HMR.

Transporting Hazardous Materials by Air, Rail, Highway and Water ¿ attend these individual sessions to review hazmat safety and compliance issues unique to each mode: Air Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Rail Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Highway Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Water United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Compliance Inspections ¿ review safety and compliance issues related to the inspection and investigation of hazmat offer's and those who manufacture, re-qualify, rebuild, repair, recondition, or how to order publications and training tools retest packaging (other than cargo tanks and tank cars) used to transport hazardous materials.

Propane Facility Inspections ¿ review the safety and compliance issues that are related to the transportation of non-DOT storage tanks, cargo tanks, cargo tank test records, shipping papers, registration, incident notification, and cylinder requalification.

Transporting Radioactive Material ¿ provides an overview of the hazmat safety and compliance issues that are unique to marking and labeling and transporting of radioactive material.                                                                          
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Compliance Review and Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) Initiative - review the compliance reviews process and changes to the process based on implementation of the CSA.

Oklahoma State Hazmat Enforcement ¿ enforces the HMR and discusses safety and compliance issues unique to the State.

Legal Review and Update ¿ review recent/pending decisions and issues concerning the relationship between Federal, State, and local hazmat requirements and preemption.  Learn how the PHMSA's Chief Counsel's Office supports the inspection process.

Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Registration, Incident Reporting, and Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Grant Program ¿ attend the PHMSA 3-in-1 session to learn which shippers, transporters and carriers are required to register with PHMSA: When and how to report hazmat incidents using the 5800.1: and learn who is eligible for HMEP grant funds and how they can be used.

Cylinder Requalification ¿ learn about the regulations for requalifying of cylinders and compliance.

 

HAZMAT ESSENTIALS

How to Use the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) ¿ review how the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook is organized and how it is organized and how it can be used during the initial phase of a hazmat incident.

Regulatory Process and Update ¿ learn how the HMR is changed and how you can provide input to the regulations. Also discuss proposed and recent regulatory changes to the 49 CFR.

Security Requirements by TSA/Homeland Security ¿ provides an understanding of the security threat, an overview of the specific requirements regulations for transporting and the storing of hazardous material.
