TTB, Brazil Sign MOU Increasing Information Exchange

Posted October 15, 2012

TTB, Brazil Sign MOU Increasing Information ExchangeTTB's Assistant Administrator for Headquarters Operations Theresa M. McCarthy and National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) Director-President Dirceu Brás Aparecido Barbano recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to help establish a consistent channel for information exchange between TTB and ANVISA regarding imported and exported tobacco products.

The MOU, signed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, encourages a closer working relationship between TTB and our counterpart regulator in Brazil. It provides a path for communication between our laboratories, which have already collaborated informally through the World Health Organization Tobacco Laboratory Network. The MOU will allow cooperative laboratory testing procedures and technical research between chemists from ANVISA and TTB to help prevent and eliminate the loss of revenue from international illicit trade in tobacco products.
