Hi everyone,
I came across this simple task preparedness game 30 Days, 30 Ways Preparedness Game created by the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency in Vancouver, Washington. Thanks to the power of social media, you can join a fun preparedness game that has launched.
The premise is simple: Ask people to complete one simple task each day for 30 days straight.
In 2010, they had roughly 600 tasks completed and in 2011, They've seen 2400 tasks completed.
You can easily join in this effort without having to do much work at all.
30 Days, 30 Ways is run on its own social media sites now (so that others may use the game without geographic specificity) which include:
- Website at www.30days30ways.com
- Facebook Fan Page at www.facebook.com/30days30ways
- Twitter Account at http://twitter.com/30days_30ways
- Learn more abou Social Media 4 Emergency Management
- Share this with your network
- Keep preparing,

Hi There,
I'm attaching an Earthquake Water Tip card we developed for South Coast Water District in south Orange County, CA. We use this card as a handout for all community events, mailer to customers, Homeowner Associations, etc. It was also designed as a bill stuffer. The District is happy to share this information and the printer has agreed to lift out the SCWD logo section on the back, replace it with yours and whatever links you may want. A small credit to SCWD is appreciated. I will attach the file. The price for 25,000 is under $2,500, including delivery. The printer knows the quality card stock and has agreed to reprint for educational distribution. If interested, call: Universal Press, San Clemente, CA - Mary Johnson, owner - (949) 498-0170. We also distributed to our local Chambers, libraries, coffee shops, fire stations, churches, banks, cleaners, even the gas stations wanted a stack... Wonderful way to remind people to Get Ready Now and prepare. "Working together works wonders" - Kathy Barnum

Hey Angela and community members,
I am a newly wed and my wife and I included some preparedness items in our goodie bags. In addition to the jelly beans (Excellent food source), we put in a bandage, sanitizer wipe, and emergency wallet card. While this may not be everyone's idea of wedding goodies, it is easy and inexpensive to include these items in any little bag.

In my home emergency preparedness kit, I have updated over the summer with some really good goodies. How I did it was made a list and put it on the fridge. Each time I go to the grocery store, I would get one item and put in my kit until it was complete. Then once a year I update it. See pictures for the items I have. It is better to be prepared than to ask...what if.
I live with 4 animals (2 cats and 2 dogs) so I did not forget about them and their needs.
Something that I nearly forgot in my emergency kit, was a "spanner" tool to shut the main gas line off in an emergency (fire, earthquake...) I actually twisted a wire through it onto the gas pipe, right where the shut off valve is, and I have a solar garden light next to it too - so in the dark...
Hope that helps

Hi Angela. I just wanted to share a quick tip from the perspective of a mom with kids. My daughter is going to school in PA. I was concerned about Hurricane Sandy becuase it was showing very severe weather in her area. I wanted to make sure she was prepared and was searching for a way to get good information to her. I learned that you can copy and paste the information from this website (I used the build a kit) right onto facebook. Not only did my daughter recieve great information but all of her friends did too. Several her classmates now use instant messaging to ask me direct questions about emergency preparedness. Social media can be a very effective tool.

Hi NPM members,
If you commute everyday for work and/or school, establishing a Commuter's Emergency Plan is very important. Knowing various routes ahead of time to get to and from work, can save you time and energy while trying to figure it out at the moment. I created a "Commuter's Emergency Plan" for the staff here in FEMA RIX as part of the Ready Responder Program to help them write down their alternative routes beforehand. After completing your Commuter's Emergency Plan, I encourage you to practice taking those alternatives routes so you are familiar with the plans. Feel free to use this template or use it as a guide to making your own Commuter's Emergency Plan template.
Thank you,
Angela
A lot of activities through out this past 2 weeks visiting schools, villages, churches, public places, and on radio. Residents are responding positively to the message of "Pledge to Prepare". Tomorrow (Friday) is another day of activities and American Samoa is closing out the final week with Evacuation Drills at the local hospital (LBJ), Port, and an Expo on the 29th at the Stadium during two football games. Photos to follow....
