Tribal Preparedness
Hello everyone,
I hope you all are doing well and that preparedness continues to be part of what you do among all the tons of things you may have on your plate. Thanks for your commitment to being a NPM member and helping spread the preparedness message.
Preparedness is an ongoing effort and also comes with making sure we reach different communities by tailoring the appropraite messages and using the leaders of that communities to help convey the preparedness message. To reach more people from different communities, it's very important you reach out and try to partner with the community leaders before conducting any preparedness outreach in their community. An example of a recent partnership that developed after the FEMA Region IX Tribal Partnership Meeting in August of 2012 held in Oakland, CA, Inter Tribal Long Term Recovery Foundation (ITLTRF) and Cal Volunteers held a week long Tribal CERT Train-the-Trainer Course and Tribal CERT Workshop for California Tribe members in January 2013. As of result of this training and workshop, a Tribal CERT Workgroup will be established to help build and sustain Tribal CERT Programs in CA.
This leads to my tip of the day:
Network at meetings, conferences, workshops, and anywhere you have the opportunity to engage. You may just find your future partner there.
Community members, if you have had the opportunity to work with any tribal communities, please feel free to share any experiences, stories, and photos on this thread.
Have a good day!
