On January 15, 2013, the Center for Public Technologies brought together civil society organizations, representatives from the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and Members of Parliament to launch a new guide to working with local government bodies.  The “Practical Management Guide,” developed and printed through support from USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI), provides Aiyl Okmotu kenesh (township council) members and local government administration officials with information about the roles and functions of sub-national government institutions.

Civil Society and Legislators Encourage Citizens to Engage with the Jogorku Kenesh

USAID Announced Results of Infection Control Contest in Issyk-Ata Region

On December 28, 2012, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Quality Health Care Project, will hold an awards ceremony to recognize the infection prevention control improvements made in primary health care facilities in Issyk-Ata Rayon. At the event, USAID Representative Carey Gordon and Deputy Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Kaliev will award certificates and prizes to the contest winners for the best “Respiratory Diseases Infection Control Plans,” in which 18 family group practices in the region took part.

USAID and IOM Support Information Campaign "Together Against Trafficking In Persons"

Karakol, Kyrgyzstan – on December 20, 2012 a concert and information campaign entitled "Together Against Trafficking In Persons" will be held at the Issyk-Kul regional theater in Karakol (32 Tynystanov St.) at 11am. This concert will be the first in a series of information campaign programs over the next six months supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Organization on Migration (IOM) aimed to prevent and combat trafficking in persons in the Kyrgyz Republic.

On December 7, 2012, civil society organizations and parliamentarians introduced a new manual as part of an effort to teach civic actors how to better engage with the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament).  With support from USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI), the Public Union “International Center Interbilim” (Interbilim) presented the manual and facilitated a discussion on procedures for promoting legislation to Parliament.  The event began at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the Conference room of Kyrgyz Concept; address #42/1, Isanov Street, Bishkek.
