The Appeal Process is fairly simple. Everyone has a right to appeal a decision by writing us directly and stating clearly why you think our decision was incorrect.
All US citizens, Merchant Mariners who are denied for various reasons are provided a letter explaining the reason. The letter will give you instructions on the next step in the Appeal Process. We are bound by Federal Law, US Coast Guard, and National Maritime Center polices.
Once you receive your letter you may contact us for clarification in regards to any issues concerning the appeal process that is spelled out in your letter.
Once again, we are governed by Federal Law - Title 46, which is located on the Government Printing Office online Code of Federal Regulations. Take a look at section 1.03-04 and 1.03-15 for more information on your Rights to an Appeal.
