Post on Challenge.gov

Challenge Implementation—Step 1 of 4

The first step in implementing your challenge is to apply for access and learn how to post your challenge on Challenge.gov. Here’s a rough list of the information you will need:

  • Name, tagline, and description for your challenge
  • How to enter your challenge and the rules
  • Prize structure (how many prizes, how many dollars each, description if it’s a non–monetary prize)
  • Name, title and organization for all judges
  • Criteria judges will use to choose winners
  • Relevant dates (when you will accept submissions, judging period, when public voting will occur, when the winners will be announced)
A video about your challenge and pictures are optional, but we encourage them. A relevant photo or video is far more engaging than your agency’s seal.

You have several opportunities to preview your challenge, and share it with others, before you click “publish.” It's good to have a colleague proofread your work and to get the final sign–off from your agency's Office of General Counsel.

Challenge.gov challenges remain on the site after the contests close, so the site itself is a rich resource. Look for challenges similar to yours so you can borrow language to draft your rules, figure out how much prize money to offer, or decide how long to accept submissions.

You chose a platform other than Challenge.gov? That’s ok, you can still showcase your challenge on Challenge.gov in just a few steps by entering:
  • Name of your challenge
  • Basic description
  • Relevant dates
  • Prize Information
  • Link to the site where people will actually enter your challenge.

Potential entrants will be linked from Challenge.gov to the site where they will actually make their submission. If you run into any problems or have any questions, email the Challenge.gov team.

Next Step

After you've posted your challenge, you'll need to promote your challenge.
