Employers in the private nonfarm sector initiated 1,674 extended mass layoff events in the fourth quarter of 2012 that resulted in the separation of 319,639 workers from their jobs.

Import prices fall 1.3 percent, export prices rise 1.1 percent, January 2012–January 2013
Over the 12-month period from January 2012 to January 2013, import prices declined 1.3 percent and export prices rose 1.1 percent.

Job openings, hires, and separations in December 2012
There were 3.6 million job openings on the last business day of December, little changed from November. The level of total nonfarm job openings was 2.4 million at the end of the recession in June 2009.

In 2011, among countries covered by the BLS international comparisons program, Norway had the highest GDP per capita ($61,900), followed by Singapore and the United States. Norway had the highest GDP per hour worked ($81.50), followed by Ireland and the United States.

In 2012, there were 19 major strikes and lockouts involving 1,000 or more workers and lasting at least one shift, and there were 1.13 million days idle from major work stoppages in effect.
