Anthony Lopez:
Oh hey, I didn't see you there. My name is Anthony Lopez. I work for the United States Geological Survey. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I first started working for the USGS about four years ago. One of my professors at Rutgers University told me about this internship called the SCEP internship program with the United States Geological Survey, so I was interested and sent in an application.

After working three years as an intern on various different projects with many people in the office, I was offered a full-time job as a hydrologist which is my current position at the office.

[music]

As a hydrologist I'm currently working on two projects. The first project that I'm working on it as an assessment of toxicity of the sediment in Barnegat Bay. For this project we are basically sampling the bay and its tributaries for any pesticides, pharmaceuticals, medals or any other anthropogenic contaminants.

My other project that I'm currently working on is a rapid assessment of highland landfills. For this project we are collecting land analysis data from the New Jersey Department of environmental protection, using that data in simple modeling programs in order to assess the threat of that contaminant reaching critical receptors such as drinking water or ecological habitats.

[jumps out of tree]

The USGS is a great place for young people to work. Mostly because it's filled with the most experienced people in their fields. Everyone that I worked with was very eager to teach me everything that they know and to help me grow as a hydrologist.

Thank you for taking a little of your time for learning about me in the United States Geological Survey. I hope it was informative and hopefully you can come test the waters with the USGS.

[Waves good-bye to camera. Music plays]
