130th Airlift Wing

For more than six decades, nestled in the rolling hills of Charleston, West Virginia, the 130th Airlift Wing has traveled around the world “Delivering Freedom with Courage.” With a fleet of C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft, the 130th provides tactical airlift support in theaters across the globe. Our mission is to deliver troops and bring supplies to wherever we are tasked. The 130th has deployed numerous times in support of nearly every major military operation since Operation Desert Storm. In addition to our federal mission of tactical airlift, the 130th is also instrumental in providing support to the citizens of West Virginia in times of emergency.

<p>Before that C-130 rolls down the strip, the Air Transportation Specialist makes sure it's packed tight with everything the troops will need to complete missions. From food, water and medical supplies to Humvees and helicopters, you'll be responsible for securely packing cargo so that it can be loaded and transported safely and quickly. You'll even be responsible for checking in passengers and baggage when the cargo is actually military personnel. Once that plane takes off, there's no turning back if something's forgotten, which is why the Air Transportation Specialist ensures absolutely everything is loaded and ready to go.</p><p>Air Transportation Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Passenger and cargo movement functions to include transport aircraft types, capabilities, and configuration</li><li>Weight and balance factors</li><li>Airlift transportation directives and documentation</li><li>Cargo restraint techniques; border clearance requirements</li><li>Operation of materials handling and other types of loading equipment or devices, fleet service functions</li><li>Automated data processing equipment and its application in airlift activities</li><li>Passenger service functions, and customer relations principles</li><li>Aerial delivery techniques and equipment use</li></ul> Air Transportation

<p>If you're looking to start out in a medical career, there's no better Air Guard job than Aerospace Medical Service. Aerospace Medical Service Specialists are a medical "jack of all trades", performing a wide range of technical nursing duties, from drawing blood to assisting in delivering newborn babies. In this job, you'll be directly involved in the care and treatment of patients, including feeding, measuring and recording vital signs, administering medications, and prepping patients for surgery. <p>A multi-million dollar aircraft is worthless if it can't fly. When structural damage occurs on an Air National Guard jet, it's the job of the Aircraft Structural Maintenance Specialist to figure out the problem, fix it and get that plane back in the air, pronto. In this career, you'll become a master craftsman, learning a valuable skill set and using a variety of tools, such as welding and metalworking equipment, on every kind of metal, from steel to synthetic polymers. As the Aircraft Structural Maintenance Specialist, you are an integral part of the Air Guard team responsible for maintaining the high quality of the Air National Guard air fleet and ensuring the safety of the pilots and aircrew members that fly them.</p><p>Aircraft Structural Maintenance Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Aircraft construction features</li><li>Identification and characteristics of aerospace materials</li><li>Repair of metal, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components</li><li>Shop drawing and sheet metal layout techniques</li><li>Shop mathematics</li><li>Corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention</li><li>Cleaning of metals</li><li>Application of protective coatings, low observable materials, and markings</li><li>Proper use, mixing, and storage of acids, solvents, alcohol, caustics, primers, and paints</li><li>Proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and materials</li></ul> Aircraft Structural Maintenance
