Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP)
The Florida Army National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program prepares you for the successful completion of Basic Combat Training (BCT) and subsequent MOS qualification. It provides full visibility on the preparation process and ensures you will ship to BCT mentally prepared, physically ready and administratively correct. Warriors drill with other Soldiers within RSP before drilling with their assigned unit until successful competition of both BCT and AIT.
Basic Combat Training (BCT)
The first adventure of your military career will be Basic Combat Training. This training takes about 10 weeks and covers a variety of subjects. You will learn leadership and lifesaving techniques, motivational skills, care and use of the Army’s many weapon systems, military customs and courtesies, as well as getting into great physical shape. You will also meet many people that may become life-long friends. Prior Service soldiers may not have to attend Basic Training, check with your recruiter.
Advanced Individual Training (AIT)
After Basic Training, your next adventure will be AIT. This is where the formal part of your military education begins. The length of your AIT will depend on the particular Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) that you choose. At AIT you will learn the job that you will perform once you return to your assigned unit.
Weekend Drills
All National Guard members attend training assemblies one weekend a month. In most cases the drill schedule will be made up for a one year period. This way you will always know when and where your next drill will be.
Annual Training (AT)
Every year your National Guard unit will attend an AT period. This AT period is usually held in the summer and is 15 days in length. During your AT you will use all your trained skills, both military and civilian, to complete tasks and missions.
What Jobs Can I Do?

A Military Occupational Specialty (MOS is a army job classification. When you enlist, you can choose the MOS that best suits your career goals, needs, and personality.

Officer Candidate Enlistment Option
Enlisted soldiers and NCO’s who have completed their active duty commitment may enlist in the National Guard and after meeting screening criteria and have the availability of Officer Candidate School (OCS) written into their contract and attend the next available OCS class. Prerequisites are:
- Satisfactorily complete first term of service
- Meet minimum requirements for education
- NCOES
- Need no waivers
- Security clearance
Active First Enlistment Option
The Army National Guard has an enlistment option called Active First. When you join the Army National Guard under Active First, you begin your service with a period of Active Duty — aka, full-time military service. That not only means full-time Soldier’s pay, but a bonus of up $60,000, depending on your length of commitment.
When your Active Duty commitment is over, you’ll return to standard part-time Guard service with your local unit. At that point, you’ll be free to pursue a college education with the Guard’s extensive education benefits.
