Recommendations for a National Mass Patient and Evacuee Movement, Regulating, and Tracking System - AHRQ - March 6

The recommendations can provide decision support to persons and organizations responsible for patient and evacuee movement, health care and transportation resource allocation, and incident management.

Pandemic Influenza

Antibodies Neutralize Multiple Flu Strains - NIH - March 2
Two separate scientific teams have discovered antibodies that attach to a vulnerable region in a broad range of influenza A viruses, including the H5N1 avian virus, the 1918 pandemic influenza virus and seasonal H1N1 flu viruses. The finding could potentially help scientists develop tools to prevent or treat the flu during an outbreak or pandemic.

Seasonal Influenza

Infections With Oseltamivir-Resistant Influenza A(H1N1) Virus in the United States - JAMA - March 2
During the 2007-2008 influenza season, oseltamivir resistance among influenza A(H1N1) viruses increased significantly for the first time worldwide. Early surveillance data suggest that the prevalence of oseltamivir resistance among A(H1N1) viruses will most likely be higher during the 2008-2009 season.

Travelers' Health

2009 Measles Update - CDC - March 5
Measles remains a common disease in many parts of the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 20 million people worldwide are affected by measles each year. Measles outbreaks are common in many areas, including Europe. For many U.S. travelers and expatriates, the risk for exposure to measles can be high, but the illness can be prevented by a measles-containing vaccine.
