OPIC’s increased commitment to small business

May 22, 2012

Small businesses are at the heart of the U.S. economy, and OPIC is committed to putting them at the heart of the global economy as well. This chart illustrates the progress OPIC has made in recent years.

In fiscal year 2011, 78% of OPIC’s committed projects were with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). That represents an increase from 69% in 2002 and from just 18% in 1996.

One of the ways OPIC reaches out to American SMEs is through its Expanding Horizons events, which it hosts around the country to educate these businesses about OPIC’s finance and insurance products and services that can help them engage in the global marketplace. Earlier this year, OPIC hosted Expanding Horizons events in Raleigh, North Carolina and New Orleans. On June 27, OPIC will host an Expanding Horizons event in New York City.
