Fairchild Air Force Base is home to a wide variety of units and missions. Most prominent is it's air refueling mission, with two wings, one active, the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, and one Air National Guard, the 141st ARW. Other units here include the Air Force Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape school, medical detachments, a weapons squadron and the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency.

The military lifestyle presents individuals and families with a unique set of challenges and responsibilities. The Airmen & Family Readiness Center supports and maintains mission readiness by helping families prepare for any kind of demand, throughout activation, mobilization, deployment and beyond. The proactive, preventative and remedial programs are available to DoD military and civilian personnel and families, including Guard and Reserve, other eligible uniformed members, military retirees, eligible family members and annuitants.

Any valid ID cardholder E-5 and below (whether active duty, retired or reserves) can receive up to 100 pieces of gently used clothing, shoes, toys, books and other household goods for free per month. All military ranks and civilians may use the attic on Thursdays. Located in the Airman & Family Readiness Center, this resource is especially helpful for families relocating to Spokane from a different climate. Donations are accepted during regular business hours. Since space is limited, larger items such as furniture are posted with a description on a "share board."

Rest assured that your children receive quality day care from the Child Development Center. The accredited and award-winning center provides full-day, part-day and hourly services for dependents of active duty, ANG/ARC and DoD civilian employees for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Children develop their mind and social skills in a playful, engaging environment. Fees are based on total family income. Special programs, for children 6 weeks to 12 years old, include Parents Night Out, for several hours every third Friday of the month; and Deployed Give Parents a Break, for several hours on Saturday afternoons, free for active duty AF with referral.

The program oversees flexible hours of individualized care in home environments for infants to children age 12. Providers in the FCC program have gone through a rigorous application process and orientation, with continued training throughout the year. The homes are continually inspected by a FCC coordinator. Some providers also participate in the USDA food program. To provide childcare in base housing for more than 10 hours per week regularly, you must become a licensed FCC Provider. Noncompliance with the regulation may result in loss of housing privileges.

Youngsters will find many ways to enrich and develop their life through fun-filled and educational programs. The facility features an arts and crafts room, a computer room, game room and complete gym. Special programs include the FitFactor and FitFamily initiative, which stresses the importance of healthy choices and encourages all family members to be active together.

The teen center is an after-school program catering to youths age 13 to 18 and still in high school. Half-day camps are available during summer, winter and spring breaks. Partnerships with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, 4-H and Air Force programming provide a wide range of activities designed to build knowledge, fitness and character. Yearround sports programs include T-ball, baseball, football, volleyball and soccer, with certified coaches. Some activities require a minimal fee for participation.

Michael Anderson Elementary

Children in kindergarten through sixth grade who live on base attend Michael Anderson Elementary School. Memorializing Col. Michael Philip Anderson, an astronaut killed in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, the school is part of the Medical Lake School District and provides transportation to and from the base. The new facility features modern classrooms, playgrounds and a cafeteria. After graduation, students continue to seventh grade and beyond in the Medical Lake School District, just seven miles from the base. The surrounding areas also offer options such as parochial and special schools. |

Make the Outdoor Recreation center your one-stop location for everything you need for fun under the sun. The center offers recreational equipment rentals, home maintenance equipment rentals, trips, equipment maintenance and passes to local recreational facilities and activities -- all at reduced rates. There is also space for outdoor storage and vehicle sales spaces. The center's services are open to active duty military and dependents, retired military and dependents, National Guard personnel and dependents, DoD employees and dependents and Armed Forces Reservists and their dependents and guests. Whether you need a snowboard, a croquet set or hedge trimmers, or help planning outdoor activities, the Outdoor Adventure Center has it.

Nature beckons you to relax and take in the great outdoors from the 34 acres of Clear Lake Rec Area. Just 13 miles south of Fairchild, here you'll find fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing and more. Equipment rental is available onsite. Picnic spots dot the areas close to the water, a snack bar serves tasty treats and there is ample camping space for all kinds of cover: RVs, cabins, tents and a yurt. Kids can take their extra energy to the playground. The area is open to active duty, retired military, National Guard, active members of the Reserves, DoD civilian employees and family members.

Enjoy the great outdoors just a little outside your doorstep at this camping site on the west side of the base, just off Offutt Parkway on El Paso. The area features dozens of spaces for RVs and campers, available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Spaces are rented for a nominal fee, based on full-hookup, or no hookup. Laundry, shower and restroom facilities are available. Generators are not allowed during quiet hours, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash or in a trailer at all times.

Staying in shape is easier with the variety of activities supported at the base fitness center. Enjoy basketball, racquetball, volleyball, jogging, cycling, weight training and more. Patrons can rent equipment for most sports, and the athletic center staff organizes team and individual sporting events through intramural programs and self-directed activities. The staff also maintains softball fields, tennis courts and lighted baseball and football fields.
A new state-of-the-art fitness center is under construction and is scheduled to be completed in 2012. Amenities in the $19.7 million facility will include an aquatics center, basketball and racquetball courts, weight and cardio rooms, an area for group exercise, the Health & Wellness Center and a 1/8 mile indoor running track.

Call for hours
Take a dip for exercise or fun at either of the base's two swimming pools. The indoor pool is open year-round and features showers, lockers, a whirlpool and a children's area. The center's outdoor pool is open during the summer months. Special offerings include swim lessons, lap swim, water aerobics, pool parties, a novice swim team and a master's swim team.

92nd Medical Group

The 92nd Medical Group is an outpatient clinic offering on-base care through its Family Health Center, flight medicine clinic, women's health center, pediatric clinic, behavioral health clinic and other support services. Services include: allergy/immunology, internal medicine, physical therapy, radiology, optometry, nutrition and a pharmacy The group currently manages the 92nd Aeromedical Dental Squadron, 92nd Medical Operations Squadron and the 92nd Medical Support Squadron. Active duty service members and their families enrolled in TRICARE Prime receive the highest priority, followed by retirees and their families also enrolled in TRICARE Prime. TRICARE Standard patients are seen on a space-available basis only. Patients enrolled in TRICARE for Life (age 65 and older) are not seen on base. All patients will be referred by their primary care managers for care not available on the installation.
The Medical Group does not have an emergency department or an urgent care clinic. All emergency services are handled by local civilian hospitals. The closest Emergency Rooms are at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Deaconess Medical Center, both about 20 minutes away in Spokane. Urgent care needs require prior authorization from a primary care manager. Emergency care does not require a prior authorization or a referral.
Health and Wellness Center

The Health and Wellness Center is the primary site for fitness testing and programs that encourage a healthy lifestyle. Its vision of "Education Today, Wellness Forever" is carried throughout the spectrum of its services. In addition to fitness and exercise instruction and a room dedicated to cardiovascular and strength training, the facility hosts supplementary classes in nutrition, cooking and prenatal health. All programs are open to active duty members, family members, DoD civilians and retirees.
Fitness
The center offers special training for members who wish to motivate others in roles such as a Unit Fitness Program Manager, Physical Training Leader and Fitness Assessment Monitor. Programs also assist members who must improve their physical fitness level, such as exercise boot camps and mandatory weight management. Participants who are not mandated are welcome to participate as well. Schedules for classes vary. Call the center for more information and to register for classes.
Body Composition
The Body Composition Improvement Program is the mandatory weight management program for active duty personnel not meeting fitness standards with an abdominal circumference of greater 35 inches for females and greater than 40 inches for males. To have your body fat percentage calculated in the state-of-the-art Bod Pod, call to make an appointment. Two hours prior to a test, refrain from eating, drinking or exercising. You must wear form-fitting clothing, such as a swimsuit or bicycle shorts, for the body fat test.
Pre- and post-natal care
The center encourages moms-to-be to get a healthy start on this exciting, life-changing event. Obstetrics Orientation is held at 9 a.m. the first Thursday of each month and at 11 a.m. the third Thursday of each month. Classes are taught by a family nurse and include nutrition and fitness information. Learn to use the food pyramid to make healthy choices, how to get enough calories, what to expect with weight gain, food safety concerns and key nutrients (folate, calcium, iron). Fitness classes spotlight the benefits of exercise during pregnancy, how to maintain a safe fitness regimen for mother and baby and recommendations for exercises that can be done at home. A specific class focuses on the third trimester and what to expect during delivery, discharge, follow-ups, post-partum care, newborn care and other new parenting skills.
Tobacco cessation programs
On-site: Classes are designed for both smokers and users of smokeless tobacco. The monthly, one-hour sessions discuss topics including behavior modification, stress management, fitness, nutrition and techniques to prevent relapse. Group interaction helps build a social support net during the process. Registration for the classes is required. Call to schedule an alternative class either after duty hours or at alternative locations.

Stress management and relaxation
Lower your stress levels at the health center with three massage chairs and a room dedicated to relaxation. The relaxation room features a massage chair, a SAD lamp and a variety of soothing music. Staff at the center can even wake you up if needed. No appointment is necessary.
Nutrition
Individual nutrition consultations are available by appointment. Cooking demonstrations are presented periodically. Call the center for a schedule of upcoming programs.

In its goal to support maximum readiness through excellent oral health, the 92nd Dental Operations Clinic provides a full range of dental services, including diagnostic exams, preventative care, restorative procedures, periodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery. Active duty personnel receive priority care, with limited emergency services on a stand-by basis for others seeking dental care. The following priority applies: family members of active duty, military retirees, family members of retirees then all other eligible beneficiaries. For dental care outside normal clinic hours, call the Family Health Center at (509) 247-5661 to be connected to a dentist on call.
Dental care for family members of active duty personnel is primarily through a civilian dentist, and families are encouraged to enroll in a dental insurance plan. Some options include:
