July 19, 1-3pm (Eastern time) - GIS webinar encore: Using GIS for Latitude & Longitude Coordinates for the National Register
Presenter: Deidre McCarthy
This webinar will cover the use of on-line mapping programs to determine latitude and longitude coordinates in lieu of UTM references for National Register nominations. The webinar will provide step-by-step guidance on the use of Google Earth, BING Maps, ArcGIS Explorer, and a true ArcGIS application. In preparation for this webinar, participants are asked to download and install these free programs:
Google Earth: http://www.google.com/earth/index.html
BING Maps (can be used through a web browser): http://www.bing.com/maps/
and ArcGIS Explorer: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/explorer/arcexplorer.html
Deidre McCarthy, GIS Specialist, will demonstrate using Google Earth and BING maps for single point coordinates and show ArcGIS Explorer for finding multiple coordinates and drawing boundaries. She will also demonstrate how to list these coordinates on the NR Form.

Discuss concerns and share ideas with state National Register coordinators, grant administrators, and other SHPO, FPO, and THPO staff on how to promote and to maintain historic preservation programs in light of staff and budget shortages.

Progress on Updating National Register Bulletin 38 (Traditional Cultural Properties)
All State Historic Preservation Officers  and/or their representatives are cordially invited to participate in a 1-1.5 hour webinar with Alexis Abernath, NPS  National Register Reviewer/ Historian and coordinator of the team working of the Bulletin 38 Update.  . The webinar will serve as a forum for discussing the current status of NPS' efforts to update the guidelines for identifying, evaluating, and documenting NR-eligible Traditional Cultural Properties as well as to discuss the proposed development of similar guidelines related to Native American landscapes. The webinar was held on February 12, 2013 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm Eastern time.
