This position is a developmental position.  It may be filled at either the GS-06 or the GS-07 grade level.

TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (OA), GS-2102-06 target 07
In this position, you provide technical support for bus passenger transportation services to students at schools in a military community. Assist Transportation Operations Specialist(s) in planning, administering and coordinating student transportation operations. Plan and recommend the most cost-effective and efficient new routes and recommends revisions to existing routes. Monitor the performance of contract bus drivers and physical condition of buses to ensure compliance with contract specifications and performance-based statements of work (PBSOW). Gather transportation requirements data from school administrators, perform cost comparisons and order transportation for curricular field trips, co-curricular sports and academic enrichment activities.

GS-06 position:
In order to qualify for this position, you need one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level. Examples of specialized experience include: reviewing documentation to ensure it is complete, correct, and complies with all policies and procedures; compiling data for use in the evaluation of programs or policies or to determine eligibility for services; using office automation software to edit or modify a variety of reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence; entering financial data into an automated financial system; and communicating orally to audiences with differing levels of comprehension (e.g. children, passengers, contracted staff, etc.).

GS-07 position:
In order to qualify for this position, you need one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level. Examples of specialized experience include: assisting in the implementation of a transportation program (e.g., assisting in the development of transportation routes; registering riders; providing guidance on transportation program policies, etc.); analyzing data to determine the effectiveness, durability, or efficiency of policies, programs, or equipment; using office automation software to create a variety of reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence; monitoring and tracking financial data in an automated financial system; and communicating a program's policies and procedures orally to audiences with differing levels of comprehension (e.g. children, passengers, contracted staff, etc.).

There is no substitution of education for experience at either grade level.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

All candidates must be U.S. Citizens and reside within the local commuting area where the position is located.  Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community.

Work schedules may be part-time, full-time or school year seasonal. Some positions are part-time with seasonal work schedules. School year seasonal work schedules include periods in a non-pay/non-duty status during the holiday, spring and summer recess periods.

A qualified typist is required for this position (40wpm).

Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a USAREUR driver’s license.

Applicants may be required to complete a 1-year probationary or trial period.

Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements.

You will be required to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer in accordance with DoD Regulation 7000.14R.

Selectee must undergo Background Checks IAW DoDI 1402.5 (e.g. Local Files Check, State Criminal History Records Check, and National Agency Check Inquiries).  Employment in these positions is subject to successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.  Failure to successfully meet/maintain these requirements may be grounds for termination.

Citizenship/Ordinarily Resident Status:  Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are not considered Ordinarily Resident under the applicable Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA).  An ordinarily resident is anyone who has lived in the host country longer than the allowed number of days without being a member of the forces assigned, civilian component or a family member of either the aforementioned or who has obtained a work permit for any duration.  Ordinarily Resident restrictions apply and vary depending on the host nation.

Dual citizens will not be appointed to positions within the country in which they hold dual citizenship.  Citizenship eligibility will be verified prior to appointment.

Locality Pay: Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.  Locality rates of pay in CONUS will not be used for pay setting when transferring to an overseas/foreign area.

UK Positions:  Selectee will be required to have a Visa if the position is located in the United Kingdom.

Family member appointments will expire based on the sponsor's rotation date. Family member appointments may not exceed two months after an employee is no longer considered a family member within the local commuting area due to PCS or divorce of sponsor or, in the case of a child, the age of 23.
