Ramey 5th Graders Dive into STEM to Design Water Filters

Ramey 5th Graders STEM Project Ramey School’s 5th graders dove into STEM this fall with a focus on Earth’s most precious resource - water. The homeroom teacher and his 5th grade environmental scientists, along with Ramey’s environmental high school science teacher, explored and tested water from various beaches located on the northwest side of Puerto Rico. Russell ES Students Join First Lady Michelle Obama at White House Tree Lighting

Russell ES Students at 2012 White House Tree Lighting John H. Russell Elementary School was honored with a request to provide a small group of students to join the first lady, Michelle Obama, on stage at the White House Tree Lighting on December 6, 2012. The students enjoyed a reading of The Night Before Christmas by Mrs. Obama and Rico Rodriguez. The students were joined by a parent and two teachers at the school. It was a lovely evening and our students proudly represented their school, the United States Marine Corps, and DoDEA.

Quantico Middle High School Students use Green Globs and Graphing Equations Software

Students use Green Globs Software A student describes his thinking to an instructor as he uses the Green Globs and Graphing Equations sofware in his math class at Quantico Middle High School. The software is available in all of our New York, Virginia, and Puerto Rico Middle and High schools and allows for student exploration and practice at different levels.

Russell Elementary School Holds Mock Election

RES Mock Election 2012 Russell Elementary School held a Mock Presidential Election on
Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012. Students in kindergarten through third grade had
the opportunity to vote using the SMART Response systems.
Students completed voter registration cards prior to election day and
teachers decorated the computer lab to resemble a polling place. Parent
volunteers manned the lab on election day and students entered three at a
time to place their votes with the SMART Response "clicker". After
voting, students received their "I Voted" sticker. At the end of the day
votes were tallied. Russell Elementary School students re-elected
President Obama with 63% of the votes.

Burrows Elementary School Promotes Red Ribbon Week

Burrows ES celebrates Red Ribbon Week Burrows Elementary School students and teachers, dressed
in red T-shirts, gathered in front of the school to take a stand

Quantico Middle/High School Receives Award From Red Cross

NHS Red Cross Award

Quantico Middle/High School was named the High School of the
Year in Baltimore, Maryland at the American Red Cross Regional
Board meeting.  Quantico Middle/High School was one of two high schools named for excellence in blood drives. Congratulations to the National Honor Society, and sponsors.  Go Warriors!!!

Dahlgren School Teacher Named as 2013 NY/VA/PR Teacher of the Year

2012-13 NYVAPR Teacher of the Year Maureen Holt, a PreK - 8th grade social studies, art, and drama teacher at Dahlgren School, has been named as the 2013 NY/VA/PR District Teacher of the Year. The DoDEA "Teacher of the Year" honors educators that have made an exceptional difference in the lives of their students and provided inspiration to their peers. The purpose of the DoDEA Teacher of the Year program is to recognize and promote excellence in education.

DoDEA Schools to Adopt Common Core State Standards
June 6, 2012

Adopting the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) will benefit DoDEA's highly mobile student population which moves frequently between public schools and DoDEA schools.
