A unique group of Johnson Space Center team members united for a recognition ceremony in the parking lot of Space Center Houston on Jan. 23. Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were greeted by members of JSC senior management, including Steve Altemus, deputy center director; Debbie Conder, deputy director, External Relations Office; and Joel Walker, director, Center Operations. The event, organized by the JSC Safety Action Team (JSAT), symbolized the connection between JSC and the community, as well as the center’s dedication to safety. MORE...

On Jan. 24, NASA commemorated the men and women lost in the agency's space exploration program by celebrating their lives, their bravery and advancements in human spaceflight. Johnson Space Center team members observed a moment of silence either at their workplace or in the commemorative tree grove to remember friends and colleagues. The Day of Remembrance honored the Space Shuttle Columbia crew on its 10-year anniversary, as well as the Space Shuttle Challenger and Apollo 1 crews lost on Jan. 28, 1986, and Jan. 27, 1967, respectively.
