Summary

The Inspector General testified regarding FAA’s reauthorization before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee (February 11) and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee (February 12). He emphasized four key issues the committees need to consider during FAA’s upcoming reauthorization: (1) making FAA a performance-based organization by controlling the costs of operations and cost growth in major acquisitions; (2) building aviation system capacity and making more efficient use of airspace to prevent a repeat of the summer of 2000; (3) striking a balance on the use of airport funds for capacity, airport safety, and security; and (4) safety as FAA’s top priority.
