Majority Leader Eric Cantor made the following remarks after a meeting of the House Republican Conference:

“Good morning. House Republicans this year are going to be about making life work for more Americans. Now we intend to go forward forcefully with a plan to help folks in terms of education, health care and facilitating better work and better opportunity. Last night, the President said that he doesn’t believe in a bigger government, that we want a smarter government. Well, Mr. President, actions speak louder than words.

Leader Cantor Talks About #MakingLifeWork on NBC's "Meet The Press"

Posted by Connor Walsh on February 10, 2013

If it's Sunday, it's "Meet The Press."

In a Sunday morning appearance on NBC's "Meet The Press," House Majority Leader Eric Cantor talked with David Gregory about #MakingLifeWork for more people. Here are some of the highlights:

Connecting Our Conservative Principles With Helping People:

“What I talked about this week at AEI was the need for us to connect our conservative principles with helping people and making their life work again. I talked about a man who is a Dad here in the inner city of the District of Columbia, who all he wanted was to find a safe place for his kids to learn. He has four kids. He discovered – after having fought with the local school system – the Opportunity Scholarship Program here in D.C. something that Speaker Boehner has been an extraordinary champion on. He realized the benefits of that. Now, all of his kids have had an opportunity to start in that school. One is at the University of the District of Columbia today.”

Broad Support For #MakingLifeWork

Posted by Rory Cooper on February 6, 2013

WOW, seems a lot of folks on both sides of the aisle are supportive of #MakingLifeWork!

Sen. Charles Schumer (D) says, “Even though we might have different policy prescriptions than Leader Cantor, Democrats agree with the diagnosis that the shrinking middle class and the accessibility of the American dream are our most pressing challenges.”

The Heritage Foundation says, “Cantor zeroed in on Americans’ need for expanded opportunities.”

The National Review says, “House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s speech at the American Enterprise Institute this afternoon is an overture to working Americans, from middle-class soccer moms to first-generation immigrants.”

The Wall Street Journal says, “Mr. Cantor, of Virginia, also struck a bipartisan tone…”

Gov. Bobby Jindal tweets, “@GOPLeader is right about education reform - let the dollars follow the child, not the other way around. It's working in Louisiana.”

Posted by Connor Walsh on February 6, 2013

For the fourth time in five years, President Obama missed Monday's legal deadline to submit his budget to Congress. Today, the House will vote to require the President to submit his plan to balance the budget. Majority Leader Eric Cantor delivered the following remarks on the House Floor regarding the #RequireAPlan Act:

“On Monday, the President missed the deadline for submitting his fiscal year 2014 budget. So, unfortunately, we haven’t yet seen what the President will propose to address our exploding debt. But if the President’s 2014 budget is similar to his plan from last year, it will never achieve balance. Not next year, not in 10 years, and not even in 30 or 40 years. Apparently, the President does not believe we have a spending problem in America.

It's Time To Balance the Budget, The House Will #RequireAPlan

Posted by Connor Walsh on February 4, 2013

Today, February 4, 2013, is the legal deadline for the President to send his budget to Congress for Fiscal Year 2014.  President Obama has missed that deadline four of the five years years since he became President, including this one. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement:

“This week, the House will require the President to put forward his plan to balance the budget. There is no excuse for having missed the mark four times in the past five years. Even the budget he eventually submitted last year never achieved balance. We need to get spending under control. Every month hard working families and business owners have to balance their budgets. The same should be true for the federal government.
