Anti-Bullying @ HHS
We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.

This quote by Max de Pree aligns with our anti-bullying goals at Heidelberg High School. We recognize there is a greater need to practice tolerance, respect and compassion for what makes us different because those differences allow us to thrive. This is especially true in an educational setting where no learning environment can be truly achieved if the emotional, physical or social well-being of the student is threatened. Reporting is an important component of creating a bully free environment. Students at HHS can report bullying to any staff member without fear of retribution. In addition, bullying can be reported using the link below to contact the school administration.

Principal's Welcome Message NEW!!!
August 2012

Students, Parents, Sponsors, and Community Members:

Welcome to Heidelberg High School and what will be The Final Roar of Lions as we make plans to close Heidelberg High School come June 7, 2013. As we embark on this the 67th and final year, everyone associated with Heidelberg High School is committed to providing a world class education for all students that will prepare our young women and men with a solid academic foundation so, as our Vision Statement promises, they will become independent thinkers and responsible, contributing, and productive citizens. We hold high expectations for all of our students in all areas, including their academic and social lives. Students must learn to demonstrate integrity and honesty and to take responsibility for their actions. We look to you, our parents and community, to provide support in helping our students to continue to meet both our shared high academic and social expectations. Time and time again it has been shown that developing and maintaining a close and active partnership between home and school leads to success for students in school. I encourage all of us - teachers, counselors, parents, and administrators - to communicate throughout the school year in support of our students and programs. Let’s all work together to make 2012-2013 the best ever for the Lions.

Athletic and Sports Physicals Information for SY 2012-13
My student needs a sports physical before he/she can try out for sports - where do I go? You can call Central Appointments at HMeDDAC at 371-2622/2623 for the next available appointment (can take several weeks to get a routine appointment for a physical) or you can ask for a list of local providers from TriCare who are able to provide sports physicals for high school students. There are no walk-in appointments at the local military treatment facility and the Teen Clinic will be closed for SY 2012-2013. Sports physicals are scheduled like routine physical appointments so plan well ahead of the season if needed to be eligible to try out.
Teen Clinic Closure
Teen Clinic services are no longer provided at HHS. All medications and school plans for routinely required medications at school need to be developed by your Primary Care Manager (PCM) through an appointment in the HD Clinic. If your student has a medical condition that requires special care/consideration during the school day – a school health plan needs to be developed by the PCM. See the School Nurse for the required school forms.

Vaccines & Immunization Informaiton for School Year 2012-2013 UPDATE
DoDEA will now require a booster dose for the meningococcal vaccine. The first dose was required at age 11 years and the second will be required at age 16 years (or older). Please have your student’s records reviewed prior to registration for the next school year. This requirement is in effect for returning students at Spring re-registration and newly registered students.

Immunization Clinic is open M-T 0740-1615 and F 0740-1130 (closed on training holidays and federal holiday) and is located in building # 3617 3rd floor. No appointment is needed.  DoDEA enrollment requirements must be met before school starts in August 2012.

Current immunization requirements for enrollment and forms can be reviewed at: http://www.dodea.edu/parents/dodea.cfm?cId=imm

The seasonal influenza vaccine is likely to be required again this Fall in accordance with ERMC guidance. Look for information to be posted after the start of the school year.

DoDEA, in alignment with the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, is committed to easing the challenges of military families moving between duty stations. For families transitioning to a new duty station and enrolling in DoDEA schools for the first time, there is now a provision, allowing a 30-calendar day grace period for parents/students to meet immunization requirements after school enrollment. The intent of this provision is to avoid any interruption in the transferring student’s education. The health and the welfare of all students is a top priority for DoDEA. The Department of Defense sets immunization requirements for DoDEA schools based on recommendations from the Center of Disease Control. Compliance with immunization requirements greatly reduces the risk of public health issues. School nurses and local military medical treatment facilities stand ready to assist parents in meeting these requirements promptly.
