Electronic Comment Filing System

The Search for Filings screen allows you to search the ECFS database for filings that match certain metadata restrictions. The result page has tools to visualize, export, and generate RSS feeds from your results.

We also have a Full Text search engine that has the same meatadata search capabilities but also allows you to search for words or phrases within the contents of a filing. However, you cannot export or generate RSS feeds from full text searches.

Search for Filing metadata

  1. Proceeding Number

The Docket, Rulemaking or Proposed Rulemaking number of the filing. Click here to learn more about proceedings.

  2. Contact Info

The Contact Info fields act as wildcard searches. If you enter "john" it will match "John Doe", "John Smith" and "Bob Johnson".

    • Name of Filer: The name of the individual/organization that filed the comments. It is the actual applicant for a license, the petitioner of record or party represented (e.g. an individual, company/agency, etc.).
    • Law Firm Name: The name of the law firm representing the Filing Party. All FCC filings will have "FCC" in this field.
    • Attorney/Author Name: The name of the filer's attorney, the author of the document, or the contact person within the filing organization.
  3. Date Search

Date searches can be for single dates or date ranges. Date range searches are open-ended, so if you fill out only the "From" date and leave the "To" date blank, it is the equivilent of entering today's date in the "To" date.

    • Date Posted: The date the filing was posted on ECFS and made available to the public.
    • Date Received: The date the filing was received by the FCC.
    • Date Comment Period: The date Comment Period was opened.
    • Date Reply Comment: The date Reply Comment Period was opened.
  4. Address

You can search the provided contact address by City, State, and Zip code.

  5. Advanced Options

Occasionally bureaus will instruct filers to reference a specific DA Number (Delegated Authority) or File Number in their filings. Most filings in ECFS do not have either field.

    • Type of Filing: Only show results matching a single Type of Filing.
    • Ex Parte Presentation: Whether the filing is late or an ex-parte filing. Ex Parte filings also have a "Notice of Ex Parte" type of filing.
