164th Airlift Wing

An integral part of the heritage-rich Memphis aviation community, the 164th Airlift Wing proudly flies the C-5A Galaxy aircraft on worldwide missions supporting our nation's defense. Established in 1946, the 164th is a leader in the strategic airlift arena. In 2008, the 164th moved into the newest, most modern air base in the Air National Guard inventory, securing our place as a key team member of the Memphis International Airport community.

<p>The safety and security of the people, property and resources of the Air National Guard is the sole mission of Security Forces. A career as a Security Forces Specialist requires extensive training in law enforcement and combat tactics since you'll work both stateside on bases and overseas where you'll often patrol off base. In this role, you'll ensure the safety of all base weapons, property and personnel from hostile forces, conduct investigations into any on-base incidents, apprehend and detain suspects, secure crime scenes and testify in judicial proceedings. You will also be involved in team patrol movements, tactical drills, battle procedures and military operations other than war. You'll receive the highest quality law enforcement training available, which can prepare you for a successful career in civilian law enforcement.</p><p>Security Forces Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Weaponry, laws, directives, programs, policies, and procedures governing SF activities</li><li>Installation security</li><li>Weapon system and resource security</li><li>Anti-terrorism</li><li>Law enforcement and investigations</li><li>Military working dog function</li><li>Air base defense</li><li>Armament and equipment</li><li>Training</li><li>Pass and registration</li><li>Information security</li><li>Combat arms</li><li>Normal color vision</li><li>No recorded evidence of personality disorder</li><li>Never been convicted by a general, special, or summary courts-martial</li><li>Never received non-judicial punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice</li><li>Never been convicted by a civilian court of a Category 1, 2, or 3 offense, nor exceeded the accepted number of Category 4 offenses</li><li>Individuals who have had their spleen removed are not eligible for assignment to the military working dog program or any dog functions</li></ul> Security Forces

<p>Water and Fuel Systems Maintenance Specialists are key to maintaining the Air National Guard's high environmental standards. The skills you'll learn in this specialty will translate easily into a successful civilian career in plumbing or water treatment.  As a Water and Fuel Systems Maintenance Specialist, you will learn principles of operation and construction, features of backflow prevention devices, natural gas distribution systems, and fire suppression systems.  You'll also learn to operate and set up field water purification units and field water distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection and disposal systems.</p><p>Water & Fuel Systems Maintenance Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Contingency/peacetime operations in hydraulic, electrical, mechanical theories, and principles that apply to all utility and liquid fuel systems</li><li>Characteristics, physiological effects, and hazards of liquid fuel products to include types, sizes, and uses of plumbing materials and components</li><li>Mathematics</li><li>Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications, military and commercial publications, and environmental regulations</li><li>Maintenance of water distribution, wastewater collection, and natural gas distribution systems and corrosion prevention. </li><li>Prime BEEF program its role in supporting world wide contingency operations</li><li>Must have normal color vision</li><li>Freedom from fear of confined spaces (Claustrophobia)</li><li>Freedom from fear of heights (Acrophobia)</li></ul> Water & Fuel Systems Maintenance

<p>There are hundreds of Air Guard buildings and structures throughout the country and worldwide, and it's the job of Air Guard Civil Engineers to ensure they're not only maintained but combat ready. In this career, you could go anywhere in the world to assess damage, perform emergency repairs, advise commanders on emergency response and train personnel in a wide range of disaster preparedness. You'll build and maintain structures and utilities, advise and consult with commanders on emergency response, and dispose of conventional, nuclear and chemical biological weapons.</p> Civil Engineer
