Description

Accurate prediction of the regional responses of CO2 flux to changing climate, land use, and management requires models that are parameterized and tested against measurements made in multiple land cover types and over seasonal to inter-annual time scales. In 2007 we collaborated in the CLASIC IOP by measuring surface fluxes and vegetation characteristics in three different fields near the ARM SGP Central Facility (CF). The land uses of the three fields comprise the dominant agricultural land cover types for the SGP region (i.e., winter wheat, pasture, and summer crop). The field locations were chosen to form a roughly 10km equilateral triangle to facilitate comparison of our flux measurements with over-flights by the Duke University Flux Helicopter, planned as part of the CLASIC IOP. These and other carbon cycle studies facilitated by CLASIC were valuable for the North American Carbon Programs Mid Continent Intensive Campaign conducted during summer, 2007.
