| The purpose for this “yearly commercial driver workforce survey process” is to better understand how changes in the commercial driving environment impact the driver. New vehicle innovations and changes in operating practices, regulations, bargaining agreements, and consigner needs all affect driver performance. Often these effects, even if carefully planned, have unintended consequences that cannot be easily predicted from past performance. It is necessary for FMCSA to understand these ramifications on the commercial driver workforce in order to ensure their safety and well-being. Topics addressed by the survey may change each year based on input received from an annual call for candidate items.
