Edwards F-22 Raptor performs aerial refueling using synthetic fuel
An F-22 Raptor takes off from an Edwards runway Aug. 28 to undergo an aerial refueling testing using an alternative jet engine fuel -- the first for an Air Force aircraft. Edwards F-22 Raptor performs aerial refueling using synthetic fuel
An Edwards F-22 Raptor receives synthetic fuel from a KC-135 Stratotanker during an aerial refueling test using an alternative jet engine fuel Aug. 28. Organizations involved in this endeavor include the 411th Flight Test Squadron, Air Force Research Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Pratt and Whitney, and Honeywell. The test was done as part of the Secretary of the Air Force’s initiative to certify the entire fleet on synthetic fuel, an effort to lessen foreign dependence on oil. (Lockheed Martin photo)

F-22 Raptor performs first supersonic SDB drop
An Edwards F-22 Raptor drops a GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb for the first time July 11 as part of a safe separation test to integrate the bomb to the aircraft. The SDB is a 250-pound class precision guided munition capable of destroying high-priority stationary targets from Air Force fighters and bombers from stand-off distances.
