Financial Literacy EventsIn addition to our publications, videos, conferences, and other financial literacy efforts, OCC professionals participate hands-on in financial literacy events around the country. Banking on Our FutureIn April 2012, OCC staff members participated in Operation HOPE's Banking on Our Future financial literacy outreach event at H.D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C.
Financial Literacy Day on Capitol HillThe 2012 Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill was co-sponsored by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, the Council for Economic Education, and Junior Achievement USA. The OCC's Community Affairs staff and more than 60 other exhibitors offered information on their financial literacy programs to business leaders, congressional aides, financial educators, and the general public. U.S. Representatives Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) and Rubén Hinojosa (D-Texas) spoke during the April event.
National Consumer Protection Week 2012In February, the OCC brought an information-filled booth and helpful staff to Capitol Hill for an event in celebration of National Consumer Protection Week, which highlights consumer protection and education.
Get Smart about Credit (American Bankers Association)This program brings financial services industry professionals and OCC staff to classrooms to share information about the responsible credit use.
Teach Children to Save (American Bankers Association)This program provides volunteers from the banking industry and OCC to talk to students in grades K-12 about budgeting, saving, recognizing needs and wants, and how interest makes savings grow.
Through its relationship with the National Academy of Finance, the OCC has placed dozens of students in internship opportunities at the agency's offices across the country to help prepare them for careers in finance. |
