Mission: The primary mission of Detachment 1 is the same as that of the 701st Combat Operations Squadron; to provide highly-trained warfighters to the 7th Air Force Commander during times of increased tempo operations to include major exercises, contingencies and war. The secondary mission of Detachment 1 is to provide manpower augmentation and AOC and AFFOR expertise to the Pacific Air Forces Headquarters Staff. Detachment members can provide their professional time to the Headquarters on an as-needed/as-available basis. Detachment 1, located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, is assigned to the 701st Combat Operations Squadron, March Air Reserve Base, a geographically separated unit of the 940th Operations Group, 940th Wing at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

Commander: Lt. Col. Charles E. Mitchell

Parent Command: Air Force Reserve Command (Tenth Air Force)

Gaining Commands: Air Forces, Pacific, Seventh Air Force, 607th Air & Space Operations Center

Mission Platform: The AOC weapon system, AN/USQ-163 "Falconer," is the senior element of the Theater Air Control System that provides the Combined Forces Air Component Commander with the capability to direct and supervise the combat operations of assigned and attached forces and to monitor the actions of both enemy and friendly forces. The AOC develops strategy and planning documents, monitors the execution of all air, space and information operations and provides combat assessment in support of the Combatant Commander's guidance and objectives.

Personnel:  21 authorized positions encompassing 14 distinct AFSCs, to include operations, intelligence, communications, logistics and space operations. The unit has 1 full-time and 20 Traditional Reserve positions.

Exercise Support: Annual participation in the Chairman, Joint Chief's of Staff's largest exercises, ULCHI FREEDOM GUARDIAN (Summer) and KEY RESOLVE (Spring), serving at Osan AB, Republic of Korea. Additionally, participation in PACAF exercises TERMINAL FURY and TALISMAN SABER is encouraged on an as available basis.

Jul 2009: Assigned to the 940th Operations Group, 940th Wing, Beale AFB, CA.
Jun 2010: Member awarded Judge Advocate General's School Robert L. Lowry Award for Excellence
Dec 2010: Member selected for Air Force Legislative Fellowship
Feb 2011: Member selected as USAF Intelligence Officer Course "DG"
Mar 2011: Member named as recipient of the 2010 AFRC Air Force Intelligence Award

History: Det 1 was activated 15 May 2000 in response to a request from the PACAF Director of Operations in order to provide high-quality, experienced Battle Staff support to the PACAF Headquarters. Detachment members began operations as a part of the main squadron and deployed to Korea in support of Exercise Ulchi Focus Lens in August of the following year. The Detachment has deployed annually to support major PACAF exercises in Korea and has also provided seasoned Air Operations Center warfighters to PACOM and CENTCOM operations.
