Compost Harvesting and Street Tree Care – Join the NYC Compost Project in this hands-on workshop on how to harvest and use finished compost. Prior experience with composting is helpful, but not required. Saturday, March 10, 1:00 p.m.

Fitness and Nutrition Book Camp – Spring is right around the corner, so there’s no better time to get yourself into tip-top shape. Learn how to eat healthy, and participate in yoga and low-impact fitness as well. Saturday, March 10, 9:30 a.m.

Picturing Science: Museum Scientists and Imaging Technologies – Admire the beauty of nature and the advanced cameras that capture all of its intricacies in prints taken by the Museum of Natural History’s research staff using X-rays, lasers, infrared photography and other high-tech means. Exhibit runs until June 24, 2012

ReLeaf Workshop – Join an interactive workshop on street tree pits, porous pavements, green and blue roofs, and other “green infrastructure” projects being used throughout New York City. Friday, March 9, 2012, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Stop ‘N’ Swap – Find new homes for things you no longer need and take home items that you can use. By recycling already-made items, you’ll be helping prevent waste from production, packaging and transportation. Saturday, March 10, 12:00 p.m.

The New York Botanical Gardens’ Orchid Show – Now in its 10th year, the nation’s largest exhibition of orchids offers insights into the mystery of these spectacular flowers and a gorgeous setting for evening cocktails. Tuesdays-Sundays, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Runs until April 22, 2012

    Your local “Freecycle” can also be a great way to find a new home for unwanted household items. Others can find your home to be a new home for their items as well!
