Dear Congresswoman Grace -- What do you think about this idea from former Secretary of Labor, Robert Reich, for helping to keep the Social Security system solvent? " . . . 80 percent of Americans pay more in Social Security taxes than they do in income taxes, and it's a relatively regressive tax -- since not a dime over $113,000 (this year's ceiling) is subjected to it. Yet Social Security taxes go up from 4.2 percent of earnings to 6.2 percent starting this week. And since most employers in effect reduce wages by the portion of Social Security taxes they pay, the real effect on most workers is an increase from 8.4 percent to 12.4 percent. Here's a better idea, that would put more money in the pockets of average working people who'd spend it and thereby create more jobs: Exempt the first $25,000 of wages from Social Security taxes, and eliminate the ceiling. What do you think? (Thank You Robert Reich and Congresswoman Napolitano.)

  3. Congress needs to act and act now to help avoid future sizable tragedies like the ones we have had these past several years. We need to educate the general public of mental health service availability and urge them to press Congress if no services are available in their communities. 1.usa.gov/REKlW3
  4. I am saddened and troubled by this tragic, senseless violence in Connecticut. Having children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of my own, my heart grieves with the parents who have lost their little ones. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with the students, teachers, families, and the entire Newtown community this evening. 1.usa.gov/Srhl4h
