Ceremonial Band

The Ceremonial Band is the cornerstone of the 1st Marine Division Band. It combines precision drill movements with inspiring music to showcase our proud military heritage. No Marine Corps ceremony would be complete without this traditional musical element. The First Marine Division Ceremonial Band has travels throughout the United States supporting community events, military ceremonies and parades. They have appeared at such notable events as the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, as the State Funeral for President Gerald Ford. Whether performing for the President of the United States, foreign dignitaries, local military commands and various communities throughout the United States, the First Marine Division Band represents the very best of Marine Corps music and is the “Pride of the Division”.



Concert Band

The Concert Band is regarded as one of the finest military ensembles in the United States today. They perform traditional marches, overtures, instrumental solos, classical transcriptions, and patriotic favorites. The Concert Band performs regularly throughout Southern California as well as the continental United States. Highlight performances include the 2007 Fleet Week Celebration in San Francisco and the 2007 San Antonio Fiesta Days. The band also performs annually at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.

Big Band

The 1st Marine Division Big Band is a traditional jazz ensemble consisting of a rhythm section, saxophones, trombones and trumpets. They perform classic styles from the Big Band era, as well as modern contemporary Jazz, Fusion, Funk and Latin. The 1st Marine Division Big Band also has worked with many musical legends, such as Sammy Nestico.

Jazz Combo


Usually performing light jazz as background music for Commanding Generals’ social events, this group performs styles such as modern and contemporary jazz, funk and Latin, when the occasion calls. The Combo has performed as a feature group in concerts, as well as on its own at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

Brass Quintet


The Brass Quintet can provide music for solemn occasions such as memorial services and other Military ceremonial events. They have also performed and given master classes at various high school music programs in support of the Marine Corps recruiting effort. Their repretoire includes Jazz and Broadway musicals, Bach and Beethoven, and John Philip Sousa. This diversity enables the Brass Quintet to perform for military ceremonies, chamber music concerts, or small official functions. Whatever the case, the Brass Quintet will add an air of dignity to any occasion.

Party Band

Playing everything from Dixieland to Classic Rock and Funk, the Party Band strives to entertain audiences using a distinctive blend of jazz improvisation coupled with up-beat popular tunes. The Party Band is an extremely mobile and flexible ensemble that adds color and vivacity to nearly any occasion. It has appeared at events such as the 2007 San Francisco Fleet Week, 2007 Magic Music Days, Downtown Disney, and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mess Night / Dining in Detail


Consisting of a trumpet, piccolo and a drum, this small detail supports dining ins, and mess night ceremonies for the 1st Marine Division and other tenant commands. The origin of this ensemble dates back to the original Marine Band of 1798, when fifes and drums were the instruments of the day.

Rock Band

This ensemble blends the classic rock band set up of electric guitars and drums with bagpipes – a first in Marine Corps history. The 1st Marine Division Band Rock Band performs a high energy mix of classic and modern rock, heavy metal as well as modern arrangements of Celtic classics.
